Yoga Nidra is increasingly being recognised as a helpful support for people living with PTSD because it works directly with the stress response. Rather than relying mainly on talking or thinking things through, Yoga Nidra meets trauma where it actually lives, in the nervous system, the body, and the deeper, less conscious layers of the mind.

For mental health professionals, yoga teachers and individuals who have a regular personal Yoga Nidra practice of at least 6 months. This Classicalyoga course provides a comprehensive understanding of trauma, grief, chronic stress and PTSD, and how to teach Yoga Nidra sessions that will enable people to move gently through trauma, chronic stress and grief towards post traumatic growth. There is a focus on grief – losses are often traumatic; grief doesn’t always contain trauma, but trauma almost always contains grief. If we deny ourselves the grieving process, our bodies and lives suffer.

Embedded within the modules are links to relevant articles, research, books and audiovisual reference sources from experts in the field of trauma and trauma informed yoga. How to create a secure, non-judgmental space with clear boundaries, empowering clients to soothe and regulate the nervous system, to help address chronic stress, PTSD, anxiety, and depression, and grief. This is the fishing rod and the fish; clients are 100% engaged with the process of healing.

Assignments are designed to consolidate your understanding of trauma in all its forms, the consequences of untreated post-traumatic stress, the profound importance of resilience building and deep relaxation to counteract hyper-vigilance and triggering, using YN practices.  Working with an individual/small group over a 3-month period – creating, implementing and assessing a treatment plan.

On completion you will have the confidence and skills to transform your own life through continued practice of YN, and to guide others to do the same. Yoga Nidra promotes systematic somatic healing, as it connects with the unconscious to process stored trauma gently and safely.

“Our essential nature is boundless consciousness.  We are rooted in it when the mind focuses and settles.”
