Trauma Informed Yoga Nidra Course Outline

This online Trauma Informed Yoga Nidra Teacher Training course fulfills the US Yoga Alliance’s CE non-contact 3-year requirement (20 CE’s). Weekend workshops accrue 14 hours CPD/CE credits.

3 modules; 100 hours average requirement for completion – 20 hours per module study, research and assignment responses, plus personal Yoga Nidra practice. Each module has 3 assignments.  Included in the course fee are all course materials, a Yoga Nidra recording, one to one tuition, a 45 minute Skype tutorial and certificate on completion.

The course is suitable for health care and trauma/emergency care professionals, yoga teachers/students, and individuals with at least 6 months committed personal Yoga Nidra practice, wishing to deepen their practice and understanding of Trauma Informed Yoga Nidra, aka Trauma Sensitive/Trauma Aware Yoga Nidra, both for self-development and in preparation for teaching.

Module content outlines:

Module 1  Defining trauma; its causes, degrees and consequences; chronic stress, burn out and vulnerability to trauma; different treatment approaches to PTS, PTSI/PTSD; YN as an adjunct therapy; stress, trauma and the koshas.

Module 2 The stress response; co-morbidities of chronic stress; how un-integrated PTS can become PTSI/PTSD; erosion of resilience; work-related trauma; complex PTSI; PTSI in children: behavioral changes; integrating trauma; proprioception and interoception; Grief and loss; effects of grief on all levels; different cultural approaches to grief; simple grief, complicated grief, traumatic grief; transcending grief and trauma with YN practice.

Module 3 The myth of closure; transcending grief and trauma; towards post-traumatic growth (PTG), key areas of PTG, measuring progress; agency, empowerment; how Yoga Nidra addresses trauma on all levels, creating and delivering trauma informed YN scripts to individuals and small groups, abreactions, confidentiality, developing resilience and motivation; measuring progress; re-wiring the relaxation response, attenuating the stress response; home practice – the key to recovery.

NB A late completion fee of £75.00 will be implemented if you don’t meet the 6-month deadline, unless unforeseen circumstances make this genuinely impossible.

Embedded within the 3 modules are links to relevant articles, books and audiovisual reference sources from experts in the field of trauma and trauma informed yoga.

In addition to the course text, the required reading list books below are excellent lifelong references, also applicable to life and loss. You will also receive a YN recording and several written scripts to help you take the slog out of writing your own script.
